A Pest Inspection is a visual inspection of the readily accessible areas of a home for evidence of termite activity and or termite workings/damage. The inspector will visually inspect the interior and exterior of the home or building including any accessible roof cavities and sub-floor areas. These inspections are designed to locate the presence of termites or borers and also to identify areas which are prone to a potential attack.
The inspector should tell you:
what (if any) termite management system has been used on the home and where you can find the maintenance requirements of the system
if the property is in an area where there is risk of termite attack.
A pest inspector must be fully qualified, licensed and insured to perform the inspections and to carry out treatments or to install termite management systems.
A pre-purchase pest inspection, or more accurately a pre-purchase timber pest inspection, is an inspection carried out on a property by potential buyers, before purchase.
A pest inspection identifies visible signs of timber pests including subterranean termites, fungal decay, wood borers, conditions conducive to timber pests and provides recommendations on how to reduce the risk of a timber pest attack.
